How to write an effective online dating profile

We at ChristiansUK get to view many thousands of profiles, some excellent, some less so. We sometimes wonder what impression the member thought they were going to give when they wrote such short or poorly worded essay questions.

Online personal adverts

Single Christians need to think of their online profile as their personal adverts. An effective advert has to start with the initial eye-catching introduction. The addition of excellent photos helps the onlooker get an initial impression and how to obtain these is an article in itself.

Take time over composing your profile

We estimate that a good profile, that will attract lots of interest should take at least two hours to compose. You should not, if possible, compose your profile on the website at first. Use software such as Microsoft Word or another word processing package so you can spell and grammar check your work. Nothing looks worse than a poorly written, sloppy-looking profile. It shows you took little time and little thought. If you need help with spelling and grammar ask a friend to help you.

A brief and catchy introduction

Alongside the initial photo will be the brief description essay section. This section is perhaps the most important part of your profile. This gives you the opportunity to grab the viewer’s attention and intrigue them enough to read the rest of your profile. Don’t write in long sentences, as these will quickly bore readers. On ChristiansUK we record sections of at least 250 characters as being complete. We also weight our searches towards those who have fully completed profiles. This encourages effort and commitment from our members.

Additional essays fill in the details

ChristiansUK additional essay questions ask about your plans, aspirations and dreams. This gives you the space to talk about what is really important to you. A potential partner will be interested in what makes you tick, what motivates you and what inspires you. We are all different so don’t think that what you write about yourself will be the same as everyone else because it won’t be.

Tell it as it is

Finally, be honest and open in your essay answers. It’s better that people know any potentially negative things about you before they think about going on a date with you. Hiding crucial facts only hurts you in the long-run. If you are a naturally humorous person be that in your essays, if not don’t try to be. The important thing is to be yourself and enjoy telling people about yourself. You’re more interesting than you think you are!
